ESTEVAN JUNIOR SUMMER BAND CAMP

AUGUST 17th – 22th, 2008

Dear Student and Parent or Guardian:

Welcome to the Estevan Summer Band Camp. I do hope that your son or daughter is as excited about the camp as I am. I know it will be an excellent learning opportunity for your child, as well as a fun experience.

Once again this year, the camp is being held at Clearview Church Camp at Kenosee Lake. You will enter Moose Mountain Park through the main gates. Continue on the main park road following the institutional camp signs until you see the Estevan Summer Band Camp sign. At that point you will turn left (south) and the entrance to Clearview Camp is the second approach on the left (east). If you do not have a provincial park sticker, you will be required to pay a park entrance fee. If you leave the park within three hours of entering, you may ask for a refund of that fee. Camp registration and the parent meeting will be planned within this time frame. Arriving too soon in advance of the registration time and the parents meeting is not recommended. Please avoid arriving at the camp prior to 4:00PM.

Due to the nature of this year’s camp, and the fact that it is a residential camp, please read all points carefully.

- Registration and welcome BBQ will commence at 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 17th, 2008.

- Camper/parent meeting will take place at 5:00 PM - rules and expectations will be laid out at this time. Parents are encouraged to attend, however, if your child is arriving with someone else, please get the information from them.

- Please ensure that your son/daughter’s instrument is in good working condition and that they have all necessary accessories eg. Reeds, valve oil sticks, mallets, etc…..as these items will not be available at the camp.

- Auditions and band placement will follow the parents’ departure.

- A concession will be on site. Money will be collected at registration, to a maximum of $10.00 per camper. The concession will run on a credit system and refunds will be given at the end of the week for the balance, if any. Campers are asked not to have any additional money at the camp.

- A camp picture will be taken and will be available to campers at a cost of $5.00 each. Picture orders and payment will be taken at registration. This will be your only chance to order a picture.

- All medical conditions, prescription and/or other medications, i.e. Food, insect allergies, asthma, etc, must be reported at time of registration. Please be very specific.

- Campers may wish to bring personal CD players and cameras. Please ensure that these are labeled with the camper’s name. Ghetto blasters, cell phones, palm pilots, and the like, are not allowed at camp, and if brought, will be take away and held until the end of camp. A telephone is available at the camp but is for emergency use only. If you need to contact your son or daughter while at camp, please call (306) 421-7624 (Grunert’s cell).

- As in the past, a t-shirt is included in the registration fee and will be handed out at registration.

- Camp will conclude with a Final Concert that will take place Friday, August 22nd, 2008 at 5:00 PM. A BBQ supper will be served during the concert. Please bring lawn chairs, as the concert will be outside, weather permitting. Campers will depart following the concert. If you are not able to attend, please make arrangements for your child to be picked up at this time. Again, please do not arrive at the camp prior to 4:00PM.

- Camp rules and expectations are enclosed. Please read them carefully with your son or daughter, as they will be strictly enforced. Should campers not adhere to these rules, parents will be contacted and appropriate action will be taken.

- Various recreational activities are being planned and may include some of the following: basketball, volleyball, tetherball, swimming, canoeing, mini-golfing and waterslides, if cost permits. Swimming level completed will be requested at registration. These activities will be interspersed throughout the day with the musical aspects of the camp such: full band, lessons, theory, etc.

Thank you, once again, for choosing to be a part of the Estevan Summer Band Camp. If you or your child have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me either at home 306-634-7189, or at the school 306-634-4761 during the day.
