YORKTON JUNIOR SUMMER BAND CAMP - AUGUST 10-16, 2008

Dear students and parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2008 edition of the Yorkton Summer Band Camp! We are looking forward to having a fun and learning filled week!

Our camp is a day camp held at Yorkdale Central School (273 Gladstone Avenue South). Registration will take place Sunday August 10th at 4pm, followed by placement auditions. After the student has completed his or her audition, they are free to go home for the evening. From Monday to Friday, students will be expected to arrive at Yorkdale no later than 8:45 am. Students are to bring a bag lunch with them each day, as they will be eating lunch at the school. Students will need to be picked up at 4pm for their supper break, and will be expected to return at 6pm for evening rehearsals and recreational activities.

The following are some things the students will need to remember for Sunday:

AUDITIONS- Your audition Sunday is for us to help determine the proper level of band for you for the week, and to get to know your playing. Please prepare a short portion of music to play for your audition.

MATERIALS- You will need to bring your instrument (in good working condition, with extra reeds, valve oil, etc.), a pencil, a duotang with paper, and any other materials that you need to make music. You will be told at our opening meeting when you will need recreational materials, such as bathing suits for swimming.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES- During the week, we will be mixing in many fun activities with the music making. Once again, we will be personalizing our camp t-shirts using tye dye. We will also participate in bowling, swimming, a dance, a faculty concert, and other fun recreational activities.

SCHEDULES- Each student will receive a personalized schedule, along with his or her music, at our Monday morning opening of day meeting. The schedules will tell the students when they have private lessons, as well as rehearsal and recreation times.

FACULTY CONCERT- Once again this year, our camp faculty will be putting on a concert to showcase their talents and abilities. This concert will take place at the Yorkdale gymnasium at 7:30pm on Thursday August 15. Parents and the public are encouraged to attend.

FINAL CONCERT- The camp final concert will take place at the Ann Portnuff Theatre (YRHS) on Friday August 16 at 7pm. Again, parents and public are encouraged to attend. Studnets will need to arrive at the APT no later than 6:30 pm. After the concert is over, camp will have ended, and students will be free to leave.

At this point applications are still being accepted and I hope you will encourage your friends to attend camp with you, even though I'm sure you'll meet many new friends at the camp.
