We are looking forward to another great camp, and we are very pleased that you have chosen to be a part of this wonderful musical experience. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about camp this year. My email address is scott.cowan@sasktel.net and my phone number is 306-775-1557 Please read the following information carefully, as it gives you most of the information you need. 1. Registration Band Camp Location: Yorkdale Central School – 270 Gladstone Ave. N Arrival Date: Sunday, August 7, 2011 - 3:15pm General Meeting in Gymnasium: 3:45 Placement Auditions: 4:00 After the placement auditions students are free to go home – there are no other activities on Sunday evening. 2. Placement Audition Students will play a short audition, in order to place them in the band that best suits their playing ability. Please bring some music that shows your level of playing ability and prepare a scale that shows how low and high you can play. The instructors who will be teaching you during the week will be listening to your audition. Please remember that they are looking forward to hearing you play, and they understand what it is like to play by yourself for an audition. They will try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. 3. Monday Students should arrive by 8:45 Monday morning. They will find the results of their placement audition and scheduled lesson times posted by the door as well as receive their music and schedules for the week. There will be a camp wide meeting at 8:50 and then students will be directed to the appropriate locations to begin the day. Remember to wear your camp shirt. 4. Schedule On Monday morning students will receive a detailed schedule. Please refer to this schedule for information about the activities for the week. 5. Out-of-Town Students The camp is not responsible for supper hour or finding lodging for out-of-town students. It is best to try to find family or friends to host your
child during the week. 8. Meals There will be a supervised lunch room at noon. Students should bring a lunch each day. ** PLEASE note that this is a nut-free camp.*** Due to health reasons, we ask that you do not send anything for lunch that may contain nuts. Thank you. Instruments and Equipment Students are reminded to have their instrument in good working condition. Also be sure to have reeds, valve oil, or any other items you need for your instrument. Be sure to have your case well labeled. 14. Final Concert The Final Concert is scheduled for Friday, August 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Yorkdale gymnasium. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Camp is concluded following the concert. 15. What to Wear Please wear clothing that you would normally wear to school. We ask that you do not wear black-soled shoes. We will be the first group in the school after the floors have been waxed. Black soled shoes can leave marks and we would like your help in leaving the school as clean as we found it. For the final concert students are asked to wear their camp shirt with black pants. We will be having theme days which will be announced during the general meeting after registration on Sunday. These days are always fun. 16. Music and Study
Materials Each student should bring some study books, solos or other playing material for use at lessons and during the placement audition. 17. Money and Valuables Please do not bring valuables such as CD players, MP3 devices, or other expensive items. There are no vending machines for student use, so it is advised to bring a water bottle and snack if you need it. 18. Camp Rules All school rules will be in effect at the camp. Students should use good common sense and judgment. We are very excited about this year’s Yorkton Summer Band Camp. We look forward to a musically educational and enjoyable experience.
