The SBA Prairielands Jazz Camp is a unique opportunity for developing young jazz musicians. The camp brings together some of the best jazz performers and educators in Canada to provide young musicians a week of intensive jazz training. The camp offers a host of nationally-acclaimed clinicians, many of whom are originally from Saskatchewan and still have strong roots in the province (see the jazz camp information page for details on clinicians).

While filled with expert clinicians, the Prairielands Jazz Camp is still great for all ability levels and prior jazz experience is not necessary. Activities at camp are designed for different levels of playing ability so each participant can feel comfortable, yet challenged. The camp is open to students from grade 7 to 12.

The jazz camp is a day camp based at the University of Regina.  During the week, Monday to Friday, the camp will generally run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Plan to arrive at 8:45am so that you are ready to go at 9:00am. (There will be staff at the camp from 8:00am if parents need to drop off participants early.) All participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and eat at the Riddell Centre. There are various food services in the food court so leaving the Riddell Centre is not necessary or encouraged. Bringing a lunch will give students more free time as the noon lunch break will be only 45 minutes long. We will be providing the opportunity for students to participate in a pizza lunch on Thursday at noon. The approximate cost is $7.00. We will provide more details and collect money during the week. We strongly discourage students leaving the campus and driving elsewhere at noon for lunch.

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00pm our amazing national clinicians will present  faculty combo concerts. On Friday at 4:00pm the staff will present a faculty big band concert that will end at 5:00 and students are asked to be back for the student combo concert at 7:00pm that same night. The final student big band concert will take place on Saturday morning at 11:00am in the University Theatre in the Riddell Centre. Further details on planned activities and events will be shared with registered participants closer to the start of camp.

In addition to concerts, camp participants will engage in improvisation and jazz theory class, big band rehearsals, sectionals, combo experience for all participants, instrument master classes each morning, 2 half-hour private lessons, and guided listening sessions.

    Refund Policy:

Registrations cancelled 30 days or more before the camp start date will receive a full refund minus a $25 administration fee. Registrations cancelled with less than 30 days notice will not be eligible for a refund.
