Band Camps are BACK!

 WHAT IS BAND CAMP?

A great way to receive excellent musical instruction in a fun-filled week!  The Saskatchewan Band Association offers comprehensive instruction for woodwind, brass and percussion students who have one or more years of playing experience.

Band Camps are hosted in Regina, Saskatoon and Yorkton as week-long day camps.  Kenosee Lake Camp is offered as a week-long full residential camp in beautiful Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

Our Prairielands Jazz Camp, held in Regina, kicks off the summer in early July and is also open to ALL band students with at least 1 year of playing a band instrument... no previous Jazz experience required!

What to Expect:

        • Expert band & instrument specific training provided by band directors & qualified professional musicians - including guest national clinicians for the Jazz camp
        • Private lessons, master classes and instrument specific sectionals
        • Theory, rhythm & ear training
        • Ensemble and full band concerts
        • Staff performances, recreation & lots of FUN!

Incredible Value:  In ONE week at an SBA Band Camp, participants receive as much direct instructional time as they do in 3-4 months with many school band programs.

Which Type of Camp Is Right for You?

Band Camps:  Are for students who have completed at least one year of playing a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument.  Participants are grouped into bands suitable for their age and playing ability to challenge players while also ensuring a sense of success and accomplishment.  Standard concert band music and band formation is used.

Prairielands Jazz Camp:  With some of Canada's best jazz performers and educators, students with at lease one year of playing can participate in a week of intensive jazz training - NO prior jazz experience required The Jazz Camp is open to all ability levels with Jazz big bands and small ensembles designed to maximize each player's abilities. Prairielands Jazz Camp is held in Regina.

THE CAMP EXPERIENCE

Participants experience a week filled with making new friends, specialized band instruction and fun that they won't soon forget!

On the first morning of camp participants are assigned to a band that corresponds to their musical experience and performance ability. SBA Band Camps focus on improving performance skills that relate directly to the positive experiences of playing in a large ensemble.  Throughout the week participants' schedules vary to accommodate the wide range of activities the camp offers.    Of course, to showcase the hard work of the campers, each camp wraps up with an exciting public concert.

RECREATION

SBA Camps mix work and fun - it is summer after all! Although music is the focus, recreation and fun are an essential ingredient in the overall camp experience. In addition to breaks and free time, each day, a wide-array of planned activities keep students active and involved.  Depending on each camp's schedule on-site special activities including dances, movies, student talent shows etc. may also be scheduled to add extra value to the camp experience. Due to the intensive training during Jazz Camp, please note that recreation time is not as plentiful.

ROOM & BOARD

The Kenosee Lake Camp is located within Moose Mountain Provincial Park. This is camp provides a unique experience as all students and staff stay on-site in cabins. All accommodations and meals are included in the Camp Registration Fee. Like all SBA Band Camps, instructional time is provided by qualified musicians and education professionals.  Recreation and non-instruction time is supported by Camp Leaders, many of whom attended Kenosee Band Camp in prior years.

Space for this camp is limited so register early.    Kenosee Lake is our ONLY residential camp, room and board is not offered at  the Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton Band Camps, or for the Prairieland Jazz Camp.
