 WHAT IS BAND CAMP?

A great way to receive excellent musical instruction in a fun-filled week!  The Saskatchewan Band Association offers comprehensive instruction for woodwind, brass and percussion students who have one or more years of playing experience.  Band Camps are hosted in Regina, Saskatoon and Yorkton as week-long day camps.  Kenosee Lake Junior Camp is offered as a week-long full residential camp at Clearview Camp in beautiful Kenosee Lake Provincial Park.

What participants experience at SBA Band Camps

SBA Band camps provide  an incredible mix of private lessons, sectional instruction, master classes, theory, ear and rhythm training along with full band, staff performances and even some recreational activities to add some extra fun to the week.  Participants experience a week filled with making new friends, specialized band instruction and fun that they won't soon forget!

On the first morning of camp participants are assigned to a band that corresponds to their musical experience and performance ability. SBA Band Camps focus on improving performance skills that relate directly to the positive experiences of playing in a large ensemble.  Throughout the week participant's schedules vary to accommodate the wide range of activities the camp offers.    Of course, to showcase the hard work of the campers, each camp wraps up with an exciting public concert.

FINANCIAL SUPPORTS

As a registered charity the SBA works with various partners and community groups to help ensure the experience of Band Camp is accessible to all.

In 2018 we are very grateful for the additional financial support of the Community Initiative Fund (CIF).

THE CIF invests in the quality of life of Saskatchewan residents by offering grants to community projects like the SBA Band Camps.  For their support in 2018, SBA offers a special thank you to the

We are also appreciative of the ongoing support of both Creative Kids and the Yorkton Band Boosters as well as many other community groups, Band Parent Associations and individuals who help us ensure band is accessible to all!

CREATIVE KIDS provides financial support to help reduce financial barriers for children participating in the areas of arts and culture.

Which Type of Camp Is Right for You?

Junior Camps: Are for students who have completed at least one year of playing, up to and including grade 9.

Senior Camps: Are for students from Grades 9 - 12 (including graduating grade 12s)

Prairielands Jazz Camp:  Hosted at the University of Regina, the Jazz Camp registration is now part of the SBA Band Camp Registration system for your convenience. With some of Canada's best jazz performers and educators, students from grades 7 to 12 can participate in a week of intensive jazz training.  The Jazz Camp is great for all ability levels and prior jazz experience is not necessary.

RECREATION

SBA Camps mix work and fun - it is summer after all! Although music is the focus, recreation and fun are an essential ingredient in the overall camping experience. In addition to breaks and free time, each day, a wide-array of planned activities keep students active and involved. Depending on the particular camp, students participate in a wide variety of activities during scheduled recreation periods.  Depending on each camp's schedule, special activities including dances, movies, student talent night, and other recreational aspects may also be scheduled to add extra value to the camp experience. Due to the intensive training during Jazz Camp, please note that recreation time is not as plentiful.
